meet the new addition to our family!

yes we got two.
i'm just as surprised as you are. and now of course we are re-thinking names to include literary pairings. so far luthien and beren is my favorite choice, but it is undecided.
what happened is this.
we got there and this little boy (in front) jumped in the cat carrier.
he hung out for a while...jumped out and came over to hang out in my lap purring his face off. and i looked at ross and asked him if he was having second thoughts about which one we got because this boy was so friendly...and he said, "wanna get both of them?" i couldn't believe it. apparently a dream predisposed him to getting two of them....
i am so in love with this guys already.
i spent the night in the guest room with them so that they would not be alone and they spent most of the night on the bed with me. they are very warm.

madeliene on the other hand, is less than thrilled.

the champion!

the challengers

footsie under the door

more cuteness than i can generally stand on a daily basis.

LOL the male kitten looks like he totally knew what he was doing. "Got 'em--hook line and sinker!"

literary couples or brothers/sisters or just pairs in general?

they are soooooo gorgeous xD we are definitely getting more maine coones at some point in the future. Well, I say "more" but we don't know for sure if Jasper is and there's no way for us to find out. They are beautiful!!!

thanks! i'm so excited i don't know how i'm going to sit still at work today.
brother-sister pairs would be awesome, but mostly that is too limiting so we are not sticking to it.

brueder and schwester are "brother and sister" in german. i personally love the way german sounds and think it's fun to say, ha. there is a european fairy tale about Little Brother and Little Sister that often gets confused with Hansel and Gretel but it's a different story.

thursday and joffey are brother and sister in (one of) my favorite series by Jasper Fforde (which is where our Jasper got his name). Thursday is a brash and courageous woman in her 30s who has all sorts of adventures... in the first book she discovers she can transport herself into the Book World, that is, the world inside of books... "The Eyre Affair" is the first book and I highly recommend it!! Joffey is her brother and is a priest in the Global Standard Diety church (lol) he isn't a main character but he does make several amusing appearances.

Francis and Claire I got from St. Francis and The Poor Claires (or I guess it's Clares?)... the poor clares are the nun version of franciscans. That's probably not the greatest way to put it but it's early here LOL.

Amazing!!! TWO!!! They can't be from the same litter...or can they? The male looks so much larger than the female. They are adorable! They have very large ears! Who are luthien and Beren?
Chopin and George Sands? Oh, no...that includes music How about Zelda and F.Scott? Or the characters in those letters you liked so much?
Just a way-off goofy suggestion that is TV and not literary...Maxwell Smart and 99. Mary Poppins and ___(the Chimney Sweep)
Oh..I could go on and on, but now have to curb my enthusiasm. Congrats to both of you. Tell Ross I think he is a wild man.

yeah..there are a lot of great couples to offer names....but some of the ones i like (like elizabeth and robert after the brownings) are just too boring...was bert in the mary poppins book? for some reason i thought he was just in the movie.

they ARE from the same litter. and they do have huge ears and LONG tails...which is a sign they are both going to be quite large. check out the paws on the tom! you should see the protective way he curls around her. they are SO cute.
beren and luthien are from tolkien - in the silmarilion. she was an elf and he was a human and he spied her dancing in the woods and fell in love with her. they were a very tragic and heroic couple.

that's a thought...eowyn was originally a consideration for her when we thought we were only getting her....but i don't much care for faramir as a name. eomer is better.
so far my favorite is clive and joy. :)

Maybe paired names create feeling of litter mate solidarity and more individualized names would be more inclusive of Madeleine. remembering what a team puck and ??? were.
not that madeleine would notice. :)

no, i only wish i did. we have a small house and don't really have space at the moment. but there will be a kitty experiment as soon as there's space. i say experiment as ross is allergic, so we're looking at housing a mum and kittens on a temporary basis during breeding season, as we give them back to shelters to home at the end of it, and get a couple months to see if ross can survive without constant dosing of anti-allergy tablets.

my ross is allergic too - but it's a mild enough allergy that he doesn't have any reaction at all to our cats, which are low allergy. there are several breeds that are; maine coons, russian blues, bengals...and maybe a couple of others. they are more expensive, but the lack of allergy problems is worth it (imho). it's also great because we have friends with very strong allergies...and they can almost always hang out at our place as long as they have benedryl.

that's certainly worth knowing. though i'd like to try to adopt shelter cats, if possible. but it's all hypothetical for at least two years, anyway, as we have staying in the little house whilst saving for a deposit to buy.
