i think a small colony of razorblades has moved from my chest up to my throat and begun building an apartment complex.
did i mention that i'm already taking dayquil and 5 zillion cough drops?
i'm supposed to be meeting with my class group to interview the pastor of the church we are going to work with this afternoon.
i think i will be going to the doctor AGAIN instead.
UPDATE: i officially have the st. paul crud (which the doctor himself also has - questionable practice if you ask me). my strep test was negative and my white blood count is mid-range. which means it's a virus and no antibiotics will help. the doctor was kind enough to give me prescription level cough medicine with codeine. i feel like last night is the first time in ages i've slept well.

Date: 2007-10-09 09:14 pm (UTC)I had a bit more planned for this year, but something either about the seeds i chose, or our soil (which I will hopefully manage to replenish in all the beds before spring, fingers crossed) made everything that had not just reseeded from last year die. And even then, none of last year's basil came back up - which was just odd - because I intentionally let the last sequence go to seed, because I was hoping for it again this year.
Sounds like a good set of choices there. Do you keep an eye out for medicinal "weeds" and harvest those as well?
I'll dig up the "recipe" - although that word has to be used a bit loosely, the way we make it. 1 part this, 2 parts that, couple pinches this, toss some of this in if you feel like it or have it... sort of thing. That's the way I tend to operate in the kitchen overall.
I know that cold care tends to be the hardest to find out here, we just have the luck of having a couple of locally based stores that tend to have it - and strangely one store that focuses primarily on British and European imports that also tends to stock it.
I've never had any issues with using pennyroyal with fair regularity - however, I have a lot of problems that it addresses nicely, and herbs are like any kind of medicine - if there are things for them to do, the ill effects happen less. Sort of like the rule of thumb with the more serious painkillers - don't take them until you feel no pain, take them until you feel pain you can handle. If you still hurt a bit, you won't end up overdosing into stages of addiction.
No books, really, as yet. Bits and snippets I've collected from all over - pamphlets, leaflets, stories, the web - slowly trying to get some actual books, if only because I so love sitting down with a book in my hands when working on things. Scribbling down the ones you've mentioned here, so I can have a look.
What I really want right now as far as reference is concerned, is a good botanical for this area. I want scientific names alongside common, with both the line drawings and colour images, so that I can actually identify for sure and certain the things that I'm nearly sure about as far as random growth medicinals. However, our financials won't allow for me to order one, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and watching our used bookstores with hope.
