feeling kinda down today.
i got a lot more packing done yesterday and worked on paper background stuff only to get really frustrated with bonhoeffer, who i generally like. i simply can't agree with any theologian that human passions are a curse or that "God hates visionary dreamers."

love between people (while in its place is subserviant to love of God)is a gift from God. God made creation and called it good. and yes we need to be sure we do not worship creation instead of the creator (at least if you are Christian/Jewish/Muslim...i can't speak for the rest) but i believe firmly that we would be doing dishonor to God to fail to delight in each other or all of His good creation.
the pain we feel when a loved one dies is not the pain of God's will against us, but a natural part of our human vulnerability - a good thing about us, we could not feel the pleasure/joy with out it.

so now i am stuck without a paper topic for that class. i can't spend 15 pages dealing with this. i wouldn't have enough to say. and i don't think the professor would like it if i turned in something that said "life together" by bonhoeffer is bunk.

i am going to class now. time to run around DC with the politicians. i will be at game tonight. maybe i can shake this mood.

I have spent most of my NCSS class thinking about this problem/hashing it out with Sang-il Kim, who is in my class and very interesting to talk to. I think i _can_ make a paper out of this if i shift my topic of community in gereral to an exploration of love and relationship.
i have NO idea how you would discuss language differences for 5 pages, but i do have an idea or 3 of breaking the problems i see down into a trinitarian perspective.
1. implications of such a transcendent God that he doesn't have or encourage us to have relationships that are personal, specific and reciprocal.
2. What about Christ. Wasn't he fully human AS WELL as fully divine. doesn't this mean he loved like a real person and not in some effemeral way.
3. Where is room for the spontinaity of the Holy Spirit if everything in relationships is so DAMNED ORGANIZED.

i will talk to you more about this tonight. i also want to talk to you about my other paper topics if you are interested.
