feeling kinda down today.
i got a lot more packing done yesterday and worked on paper background stuff only to get really frustrated with bonhoeffer, who i generally like. i simply can't agree with any theologian that human passions are a curse or that "God hates visionary dreamers."

love between people (while in its place is subserviant to love of God)is a gift from God. God made creation and called it good. and yes we need to be sure we do not worship creation instead of the creator (at least if you are Christian/Jewish/Muslim...i can't speak for the rest) but i believe firmly that we would be doing dishonor to God to fail to delight in each other or all of His good creation.
the pain we feel when a loved one dies is not the pain of God's will against us, but a natural part of our human vulnerability - a good thing about us, we could not feel the pleasure/joy with out it.

so now i am stuck without a paper topic for that class. i can't spend 15 pages dealing with this. i wouldn't have enough to say. and i don't think the professor would like it if i turned in something that said "life together" by bonhoeffer is bunk.

i am going to class now. time to run around DC with the politicians. i will be at game tonight. maybe i can shake this mood.

Protector

You are a
protector.

Yes, you don't like to kill people. That goes
against everything you belive in. It's not that
you are a coward, but your ideals and morals
wouldn't allow it. You are the typical hero, do
the righteous things, get the bad guys and do
it all legally. But just because you don't kill
doesn't mean you can't kick ass. And that is
what you do. You use your brain and your
strenght to do honourable deeds and protect
people you know and love. If an evil guy is
going to take over the world soon, it's you who
will get involved. You hate watching innocents
suffer, and love seeing bad people getting what
they deserve. You are probably also happy and
optimistic and work pretty good in groups. And
the friends you usually make are true ones.

Main weapon: Anything at all

We must look at each theologian and their context. Bonnie ( I don't think Kendal would appreciate that term for him, but no matter.) Bonnie was watching his home turn down a dangerous road. The erosion of a middle class, increased security and loss of freedoms, a culture of fear (of the jew) and superiority, and then the eventual war and extermination of millions of people. He spent his last days in a concentration camp before his exicution... Perhaps, just perhaps, you could compair his theological outlook and social context to ourselves. Sure many things are diffrent. And there is a need to revamp the language (which you could address in say 5 pages or so) but there are many similarities... aka errosion of middle class, increased security, loss of several freedoms, and a culture of fear between the US now and germany in the early 30's ...

Sure it may be moral theology but why not explore this a little bit? How do the same creeds that influenced Bonnie to take a stand and write his theology infulence the Church? Do they? Is it coincidence that the main line denominations didn't get what Bonnie had to say and they don't get what many "radicals" within the church are saying about what is taking place here in the present? Are these the ravings of a mad man or a prophetic witness formed through orthodox theology that call out in the wilderness a warning to us all today?

Just a few thoughts that jumped into my mind.

We can focus on the pain and suffering of the world and say "it is not part of God." but we must remember the God we worship... the crucified one. Pain is, in some unknowable way part of God and part of us. But we need not loose hope because of pain and suffering. Because nothing among human things has such power to keep our gaze fixed ever more intensely upon God that friendship for the friends of God.

you are a doll.
I have spent most of my NCSS class thinking about this problem/hashing it out with Sang-il Kim, who is in my class and very interesting to talk to. I think i _can_ make a paper out of this if i shift my topic of community in gereral to an exploration of love and relationship.
i have NO idea how you would discuss language differences for 5 pages, but i do have an idea or 3 of breaking the problems i see down into a trinitarian perspective.
1. implications of such a transcendent God that he doesn't have or encourage us to have relationships that are personal, specific and reciprocal.
2. What about Christ. Wasn't he fully human AS WELL as fully divine. doesn't this mean he loved like a real person and not in some effemeral way.
3. Where is room for the spontinaity of the Holy Spirit if everything in relationships is so DAMNED ORGANIZED.

i will talk to you more about this tonight. i also want to talk to you about my other paper topics if you are interested.
much love!
