this is an amazing analysis of women's sizes in patterns in clothing. it was a breath of fresh air for me to read.
i'd love to hear what you costuming people out there think of it. ahem [livejournal.com profile] wanderingbastete and [livejournal.com profile] ibukij

Sewing pattern sizes are frequently on crack.
I'm a fairly thin woman and I have issues with them.
They don't tend to be proportioned normally, Usually I
need to buy a size bigger and then trim it down in the
bust and waist to get the correct hip size.

Also sometimes they are NOT at all measured correctly.
We just had an issue where my friend got a patter
supposedly her measurements, cut it out, and it was
a good inch too small.

I maintain that sizing for both manufacturing and patterns is
slightly haphazard just to make us all insane.
