good news on the grandfather front. the parentals report that his surgery monday went very well and that not only is he talking a lot and in good spirits, but also his color is better and he's coughing more fluid out of his lungs(which low energy from not eating enough prevented before). this is a relief. i would really prefer to have grandpa around for longer.
he has requested more of my xmas candy, so it looks like i will be making it twice this year.
....and he claims he doesn't have a sweet tooth.

the house is also in good shape although progress has slowed recently due to having no more deadlines and being completely exhausted. however, there are

basement with sub-flooring.

other side of basement with sub-flooring. eventually the furnace and water heater and the washer and dryer will be closeted off from the rest of the room.

framed fireplace

fireplace with tile and grout in place.

the rest of our living room - sorry about the wire in the lower left-hand corner.

all in all, i feel pretty good about the way all of this looks. i will still feel better about it when the basement is also useable for some of this.

Awesome work!! So, I'm disoriented in that living room shot - is the door to the house out of the frame on the left?

yes.
the door to the living room is on the left behind the couch. good call!
i think this makes much better use of the space than it used to, although not as good use as when we get the tv and such downstairs.

I still have incredibly vivid dreams about my grandfather, but it's not at all the same as having him here. I think he's happily watching me, tho - the dreams really do feel like visits.

It does my heart good to see people appreciating their grandparents!

also if you care to laugh at the size of my stash?
that's it in the corner of the living room picture. it all fits into the big basket, the bag o' crapwool on top, and the small basket peaking out from behind the tv.

wow. that's impressive. there is not a place in my home where you can't see yarn, unless you shut yourself into the shower. i used to have a room just for yarn, but when we moved into our first home, i lost that space. i have no idea how much yarn i actually have now. it's under my bed, in every closet and in boxes all over the house. and in the attic. oh. and the storage unit. and the trunk.

i need professional help.

wow! it looks SO much better! I love the way the fireplace looks. It helps to have an imaginative husband who knows how to do everything like that...and who knows what can be done. The tile looks wonderful. The floor in the basement....incredible difference. You guys have been working so hard. I like the furniture arrangement as I can see and imagine it. I think I need a diagram. :)
We are back here after a long trip back because of flight delays. Dad's color and voice strength continued to improve while we were there. He is so weak but he has plans to begin his exercise routine by pacing the house from back door to front door and increasing both pace and repetitions. Next is to walk the basement stairs up and down. I suggested that an exercise bike would be safer but he said it is too boring. His goal...to get strong enough to renew his driver's license so he can drive himself around town and up to Wisconsin this summer. Carole doubts that it is possible but I am betting on him. Thanks again for coming. You were a breath of fresh air for him--and for us.
Love...
