"When you visualized a man or woman carefully," he observes, "you could always begin to feel pity -- that was a quality God's image carried with it. When you saw the lines at the corners of the eyes, the shape of the mouth, how the hair grew, it was impossible to hate. Hate was just a failure of imagination." - unnamed whiskey priest from washington post article sent to me by

the idea of a whiskey priest is just awesome. i want to be one when i grow up....okay, maybe not a REAL whiskey priest...but MY idea of what a whiskey priest should be. :)
find the rest of the article here.
in other news, i hung out with corrin last night. first time in ages. she bought me dinner and took a much needed trip to vicki's secret and i got an awesome knitting book. we hung out at her place...it was very nice, if somewhat girly. she painted my toenails for me, which i am completely incapable of doing nicely myself. i will pay for this leisure today with more canning and vacuuming.

Date: 2008-08-06 03:06 pm (UTC)i can paint toenails but not my fingernails... for some reason fingernail polish does not stay on my hands for more then 1.5 hours. then it starts chipping and looking ratty. so i just use those buffing block things you can get at the supermarket... they are pretty cool and your nails are all smooth and shiny!

Date: 2008-08-06 03:15 pm (UTC)my fingernails chip too...but i am still trying to quit biting them to boot. it isn't really worth painting them most of the time. unfortunately it isn't just polish that chips. it's the nails themselves. they are bendy and they tear easily. those buffing blocks just make them thinner so that they tear even more easily. i loose.

Date: 2008-08-06 03:40 pm (UTC)my nails used to be really brittle like that but I found that taking prenatal vitamins makes them REALLY HARD. they used to break and tear and get really thin like yours when I buffed them. I'm not trying to get pregnant or anything but there's more iron in pre-natal vitamins and they make your nails (and hair too, actually) nice and strong. It's kind of cool haha.

Date: 2008-08-06 08:08 pm (UTC)Janel says you have a recipe for some kind of appetizer involving Filo dough and feta cheese.

Date: 2008-08-06 09:47 pm (UTC)i seem to remember rolling the dough out fine, mixing feta, spinach and garlic in a bowl with salt and pepper, wrapping it in the dough, cutting it into fingers, and frying them in olive oil. if that doesn't appeal, i have found these for you. they are at least a little like what i made.
