Of course. Attraction is attraction, it is how you handle that feeling that determines the course of the relationship (friendship or romantic).

do you think romance is always a risk? i completely love many friends i wouldn't dream of dating...i'm just not attracted to them that way. my love for them is no less...but that element is simply not present.
i also find that when i'm in a relationship, i kinda clamp down on that part of myself? i'm just not looking/thinking that way about new people, even if i notice chemistry with them.

I don't think hearts and flowers romance is always a risk. But the fact that many people confuse the intimacy and love of a close friend with romantic love can be. It doesn't have to be you seeing the other person that way, it can be the other person seeing you that way.

In German, there are two ways of saying "I love you." The first "Ich liebe disch" is the romantic I love you. The second "Ich habst du liebe" means "I have love for you" and can be applied to every one else. Too bad many Americans can't differentiate the two.

totally. my heart wanders off and/or fixates on a fairly regular basis. it's actually kinda irritating at times... fun, but irritating... not because of the infatuation, but because of the "where the hell did *that* come from?" aspect.

sometimes it fades, sometimes it lasts for years, sometimes, it's just that instant connection that leads me to believe this person was a dear friend in a former life. *shrug* i never question it... sometimes people are just sparkly.

infatuation doesn't equal "i must mate with this person"... spontaneous admiration or attraction for another person is just your heart appreciating something your brain can't quite quantify.

Oh, absolutely. I usually am, when I make a new friend, because I'm a lonely person in general and don't make friends easily, but when I like someone, I tend to /really/ appreciate them.
