is it possible to be platonically infatuated with a new friend?

Absolutely. In my home, it's called Shiny Friend Syndrome. =)

I completely agree. I've had it happen quite a few times. However, be careful it doesn't 'evolve'. ;)

Of course. Attraction is attraction, it is how you handle that feeling that determines the course of the relationship (friendship or romantic).

Why shouldn't you be?

If you're giddy and happy and your life is better because you met them, then = Full.of.Win

Why label that?

BTW, ibukj's icon just about sums it up.

Yeah, this type of thing seems to happen to me occasionally. Admiration, affection,a healthy dose of envy and Love. Yep. "friendcrush"...it happens.

Shiny Friend syndrome happens - it's knowing it's there that some people miss. I haven't been a shiny "new" friend in a long while.... ;)

totally. my heart wanders off and/or fixates on a fairly regular basis. it's actually kinda irritating at times... fun, but irritating... not because of the infatuation, but because of the "where the hell did *that* come from?" aspect.

sometimes it fades, sometimes it lasts for years, sometimes, it's just that instant connection that leads me to believe this person was a dear friend in a former life. *shrug* i never question it... sometimes people are just sparkly.

infatuation doesn't equal "i must mate with this person"... spontaneous admiration or attraction for another person is just your heart appreciating something your brain can't quite quantify.

Oh, absolutely. I usually am, when I make a new friend, because I'm a lonely person in general and don't make friends easily, but when I like someone, I tend to /really/ appreciate them.
