i am SO sleepy this morning.
it has rained all weekend and is supposed to keep raining through tomorrow night. i just want to curl up with a fireplace and tea and a book.
but we have really needed this rain. we were in drought status and now we are an inch above where we should be for the summer - 4 inches above where we normally are for august.
i am ready for fall.
i was super-productive this weekend. i got almost everything done that i set out to do and got done a few things i hadn't set out to do. the house is clean and smells good. i went to a party saturday evening with corrin and had rachel and jared over for dinner and a walk yesterday. i had dinner all prepped and ready to go before they got to our place and it turned out very well...actually i'm thinking it is a recipe that would work out very well in a crockpot....maybe with some rice added. if i make it that way i will post the recipe on [livejournal.com profile] geekcooks
i also took some books over to sell at the used book store and got a copy of the joy of cooking for $12 ! i had been putting it off because that book is so expensive! also got a crockpot book with a recipe for beer cheese soup. that will make ross happy.

but one of the consesquences of working so hard all weekend is that i am exhausted today. i want a nap.

Used bookstores are all kinds of fantstic. I wish we had one down at VT, because I'm fairly dependant on the one in NVA near my house.
As for tea, I tried a very sweet black tea over the summer which I highly recommend-- Lychee Concubine Tea (so-called because it's supposed to get rid of wrinkles, lol). I don't know how easy it is to find outside of Xi'an, but it's delicious.

we have MANY used bookstores around here, and one that is maybe a mile from our house. half price books lives up to its name. i'm a big fan.

the tea sounds great! i drink earl grey, darjeeling and mint tea most commonly, but i like jasmine and roibos and some of the other stuff too.

You mentioned beercheese soup - ever made Welsh Rarebit? (I think that's how it is spelled.) It actually might qualify as beer cheese soup, now that I think about it, though I always figured it for too thick for that - sort of a foodstuff unto itself.

i haven't actually made it, but i have several recipes for it...and sometimes it is called rarebit and sometimes it is called rabbit...i don't think there's a right way. from the recipes i've seen, it looks more like fondue than beer cheese soup. i have made fondue before and it turned out really well. it just takes too long for me to make it often.

I've never actually kept exact track of how long it takes me to make - but it is far less intensive time-wise than many of the things I cook. Admittedly, I have to be at the stove, stirring, for most of that time, but it is a shorter overall than many things. Unless you take the cleanup into account. Getting it off the pan it was cooked in is always interesting.
