yes i know [livejournal.com profile] silvertongue1 loves the bugs, but right now they are in the doghouse.
i believe i mentioned that i got 11 wood ticks going out hiking with my parents the other week?

well last friday i found another one. i have no idea when i got it.
and saturday i noticed a VERY ITCHY something on my left arm.....with no bug on it, but a definite large red rash spread out all around it.
when it wasn't gone by today i got concerned and went to the doctor.
he was VERY glad i came in. lyme disease is a distinct possibility but very treatable at this stage. i only went in to have my fears calmed. they only sorta took care of that for me. they don't KNOW that's what the red mark means, but they are treating me for lyme disease anyway...because if they wait and find out i had it later it could mean neurologists and brain problems and heart problems and icky (and expensive) things.
right now all it means is that i have to take doxycycline for a month, watch how much sun i get and go back for a second blood test when i'm done.
yuck.

If it makes you feel better, ticks aren't bugs, or even insects. They're in the same Order as spiders (arachnida), in the Family acari.

And yeah, Lyme disease is scary. I remember freaking out last summer when I found a red bull's eye rash, got tested, and got doxy.
On the upside, if you're alright, there aren't any freaky side effects.

Wow, I am so glad you went to the doctor! Were all the ticks you found wood ticks? How many had actually attached? I am glad there is an early treatment. Smart you!
