bah.
made less progress than i might like today.
only about 4 more pages done (which puts me at 18 and about 4700 words).
i also need to rewrite my introduction again.
i am, however, beginning to have hope that i won't have quite the problem filling up space that i imagined, considering that i'm almost half-way there.
i talk to beverly again on monday.
she wants me to look at augustine and i HATE the way that man handles dialogue. everything is so repetitious and nothing is good for quoting in papers, only referencing. also he bases his arguments on things that i disagree with, like the superiority of the soul to the body.
so greek!
i like the way barth handles free will better. it's better for quoting AND it makes me feel less manipulated.
i don't like feeling manipulated. even by God.
i would be so excited if this paper gets even ONE person to be nicer to poor people.

so, im probably way off here, but why not include augustine? even if you use him for debunking or arguing against his style which comparatively to yours makes his arguments less valid?

im horribly underread on augustine and your work or theory, but in the end, even if you despise a source, doesnt mean you can exclude it. it can work against you very fast when its defending time, unless you put in there somehow why its excluded or little used.

just some randomness, that may or may not help you in the end.

i am using him....for something else.

however, debunking him on a point that he uses for support, but which is not central to the argument would be a sidetrack from the paper. barth comes to the same conclusion as augustine, he just gets there a different way. so my beef is not with the conclusion, but with the way it is written and and the argument developed.
22 pages! i'd like to get another 4-6 done today.

can you do referrence points instead of direct citing? itd let to you throw in bit and peices and point them to augie (to satisfy others) for more details to cover getting to the same conclusion.

if its anything like my thesis, this will come back to haunt you if its not somehow addressed. which sucks big fat donkeyballs.

but in the end, its up to you, i is just thorwing out idea or ways to cover all bases.

i wish i couldve written that fast...

oh i'm not leaving anything un-cited. but because augustine is so central cannon LOTS of other theologians either write about agreeing with him or (like barth) come to the same conclusion a different way. so i can site someone else who says the same thing in a different way.
man i wish it felt fast! i am sitting at the computer for at least an hour per page, usually more. i feel guilty if i step away for longer than it takes to eat, sleep or use the lou (although obviously i have permission to update my journal, check my mail, etc.). and this is after several months of reading and preparing so that i would have something to say. blich.
what is your master's in?

thatd work too. im not to familiar with, well the whole backstory here, so i can only work in general and unhelpful vagarities.

MA (european) history. specialized in enlightened absolutist female rulers. yup. obscure enough.
