so we got rained out friday night. [livejournal.com profile] wilderheart came over and we hung out through the evening, but it was a much mellower event than we had anticipated. susan and michael called to find out what was going on, but it was already 11pm and ross and i are reluctant to START anything at that time of night, especially considering it would have taken an extra hour for them to get to our place.
it rained all through the weekend, canceling any hope i had for a bike ride. ross and i snuggled a lot and drank tea. we went to [livejournal.com profile] pixiecup and [livejournal.com profile] n8wax's house saturday evening for a get-together there and had a lovely time. i liked just about everyone there and we had some really good conversations. just what i have been missing!

i haven't been sleeping well lately. lots of nightmares and headaches right when i am trying to sleep. it gets in the way of waking up when i want to. sat. night i dreamt i was about to be executed for something i didn't do. i kept praying, but i couldn't find the sense of inner peace i wanted to take to my death. i felt lost. it wasn't that God wasn't there. it was that i couldn't feel him there. very scary.
sunday was more snuggling and a great deal of hanging out at shaun and thistle's. i really like them. we played two board games i had never played before, settlers of catan and ticket to ride. it was a great deal of fun, but i had to play settler's of catan to lose because understanding the basics of the game wasn't enough for me to really get into strategy.

today i meet [livejournal.com profile] pixiecup for coffee/girltime and then we're having the ladies over for classic movie night. good stuff.

in the summer 1982 that was the coolest thing going...

[interesting sidebar: it was one of the first movies I saw on a VCR]

No, man, I mean "what do you mean in the summer of 1982?"

It's still the coolest thing going. Get with the program.

As a seven year old in '82 I fell in love with Tron. At the time, for special effect movies there was Star Wars, and one step down was Tron. We (my friend John and I) turned everything into the various set pieces, and duels/games of Tron (when we weren't playing Dr. Who... but let's not dwell on that too much).
There are two colleges, a four square block of "modern" high rises (they were used in the Mary Tyler Moore show for the exterior shots of Rhoda's apartment), and a number of empty lots within five blocks of the house I grew up in; it was an urban playground of epic proportions. Needless to say we had many wonderfully rusting/dangerous places to recreate our favorite parts of Tron, or Star Wars (or, saints preserve us, Dr. Who). Thus the summer of '82 will always remind me of Tron, playing make-believe, and fighting over who got to be Bruce Boxleiter, and who was saddled with being Jeff Bridges...
Unless it was the summer of '83...

i really enjoyed it. but i lost horribly. sometimes i like playing games to lose. i shoot the moon as often as possible in hearts, just because it makes other people laugh and have a good time. i like playing games with shaun and thistle because there really isn't a whole lot of competition between us. we are there to have a good time and chit-chat and laugh together.

i'm a big fan of boardgames but quite the opposite of you--i get very competitive and play to win. once the game's over i don't much care if i've lost, but it's the strategy and competitive aspects i enjoy.
