Mar. 26th, 2006 08:35 pmnot as much done as i'd hoped today.
we didn't get any foaming or electrics done and we didn't hang the drywall. but we did tear everything out of the entryway and find problems that made the job bigger.
we had to tear out the ceiling in the kitchen over the refrigerator (which backs onto the hallway) because it is also uninsulated.
we made SUCH the mess.
anyhow we are finished, cleaned, showered, fed, and going out to see the movie.
also i made gingered honey and am halfway to making candied ginger as well.mmmmmmm.

Date: 2007-10-25 07:22 pm (UTC)insulation seems like something that makes everyone win. the house stays warmer, you pay less overall, and environmental resources get wasted less. it's amazing how much we focus on cars wasting energy when so much energy gets wasted through poorly insulated houses and low efficiency appliances. i'm for cutting down all around, mind, but houses burn more energy than cars do.

Date: 2007-10-26 10:54 am (UTC)I really wish we could fix the issue, for a number of reasons. The fact that it is cheaper to get the yarn for me to make us all sorts of random warms for when we are in the house than it is to turn the heat on is sort of hilarious in a really awful way.
But... we don't own it, and as much as I like a number of things about it, I'm not even sure it would be worth buying, could we muster the resources and/or assistance. (Our landlord has mentioned that he wouldn't mind selling it, and would come to us first.) There's just so much wrong. The roof needs complete redoing... there's nothing under our shingles but framing... the attic needs help, for lack of a better way of putting it... most of the phonelines are shot, we've got an entire wall where the electrical is out... And I won't even get started on the floors.
We'd likely get a good price, but the cost to fix everything would be scary.
