yesterday i had a meeting with my pastor about his statements about exclusive communion and it was a TOTAL success. he had done some serious thinking about what he had said to me and decided he didn't really mean it and would would never say only believers could come to communion. i won't go into detail about this here, but we talked about a lot of things connecting on this and i raised some questions he hadn't thought of and i just felt like it was a total success.
i came home and there was a package that i ordered! i'm nuts about xmas, but particularly about the music. i used to be in two different a capella groups that did xmas stuff. i miss it like crazy. anywho,
illusionstar and i used to volunteer for this organization in DC that puts on a fabulous xmas music celebration with different themes every year; for solstice or with a russian or celtic or gypsy theme. they have all kinds of dancing and stories and it is just great. they do one for may too. i knew that there was a branch up here and started looking for it online. didn't find it but i DID find the webstore. http://revels.bizland.com/store/index.html
they have all kinds of old xmasy madrigal sorts of music and old carols i've never heard of. i ordered 3 books from them (one included a CD). so many of y'all have musical talent i thought you might be interested.
Movie Review:
Last night i went with dawn and simona to go see the johnny cash movie. now, i am a big johnny cash fan to begin with, but i had doubts about this movie because i had heard reviews that it wasn't really focused on the events of cash's life, but more on his relationship with june carter. also i can't stand reese witherspoon. imho she is a limited actress who is really good at her shtick - the sassy waspy sort of thing she does. but i also love joaquin phoenix so i thought this movie might be worth it. my gamble paid off. this was a seriously good movie. yes it is really about his super-love for june carter, but there is enough of a focus on him as opposed to her for it to make sense as a movie about JOHNNY CASH. also there was a piece of me cackling at the idea of reese witherspoon in a role where she wasn't the center of attention, but that's just me being bitchy. joaquin phoenix is great in this role and witherspoon's waspy thing really works for this role. to give her credit, she doesn't steal the show, she does actually play well with others. And of course, the music was wonderful. i liked what they did with cash's drug addiction, causing the film to go in and out of focus to create a sense of removal from surrounding events and a lack of clarity when cash was high. the guy who played jerry lee lewis was AWESOME. small part, but the actor seriously hammed it up in a way that was very true to the films i have seen of lewis. i need to find out the name of that actor. all in all, it was not what i expected, but very worth my time.
last night i had a VERY STRANGE dream where ross and i were in a video game with millions of good-natured, technologically-advanced penguins. it was very strange.
today i am doing some cleaning and errand running. i need new work shoes and to take a bunch of stuff to goodwill. also susan might come over and help me with xmas candy. that would be nice.
