why do you use lj? are all your posts available to someone? or are they just for you?

Generally my posts are for friends only, though I prefer to just post public stuff. I've never done a post that was just for me, though sometimes I post things just to get them off my chest and it doesn't much matter if people read it.

i use lj because its easier than phone calling everyone or spamming their emails with communal messages. if they want to know whats going on, they know where to find the information.

I have some that aren't available to many, but my flist is sort of short anyway. Also, those entries would be open to most who ask.

i use my custom filters...but mostly because my husband has co-workers on my f-list and my mother reads my lj...i have a few posts that are...stuff that is inappropriate discussed in groups. the material demands intimacy. very few people are on that list..pretty much only people i know well enough to not care about that kind of protocol - people i think will interpret the post as if i were speaking one-on-one with them, take TMI information in stride, and not think i'm an emo loser in my moments of depression, which thankfully don't come very often. it's often more about filtering out people who don't really want to hear that kind of stuff from me anyway, than about trust.

Comprehension.
If there were more who read mine, I'd probably customize it down farther - but I think there are less than five people who look at my journal regularly, so not nearly as much of an issue here.
Part of that is because reading any of the non-collected stuff, quotes, and *gah, fear the amount of them floating about* memes... requires quite a bit of trust from me to begin with.
Then again, I think I have trust issues.

Not read anything yet that would make me think you were an emo loser. And doubt I ever will, if I'm privy to the stuff that falls into that category.

as a matter of fact you are....which perhaps says something about how trusting i am or about how trustworthy you are, not sure which.:) there are only 8 people on that list if it means anything to you.
most of the emo loser stuff would be from winter 2005. i went through a pretty bad depression during that time. most of the other stuff is just TMI to most people. the kind of thing where if someone close to you said it there would be no big deal, but if someone broadcast it you would think they were an attention whore unless you knew better.

It does. (mean something).

*nods* Oh yes, indeed. I do understand that circumstance. I have a similar issue with people misapprehending my venting. Sometimes the bitter just starts to rise up to high to control, so I have to spill some of it out before equilibrium re-establishes and I can go back to converting angst into useful.

Thank you.
