I agree... I hope it's good though. It does have Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, which I see as perfect casting.... lol
I couldn't get through the willie wonka >_< Gene Wilder will forever be Wonka to me. The first movie was so perfect I didn't see the need for the update.
i found depp's wonka to be pathetic and immature. i don't want wonka to be a sad, crazy, social outcast in need of the friendship of a little boy. i want him to be a mature genius with a wacko sensibility. also i hated the music and what they did to the umpalumpas.
The music... was different. But I enjoyed Danny Elfman actually using Roald Dahl's verses in his songs. Because the Gene Wilder version did make up some of the lyrics.
Eh on the umpalumpas.
See? For me it was much more convincing to see a sad, crazy, social outcast. The man had been a hermit only interacting with umpalumpas for about a decade. That is bound to atrophy anyone's sense of societal niceties. And that's even assuming he was conventional to begin with. From what I remember reading from the book, Willie Wonka was definitely eccentric, but he didn't seem very people driven at all, most of the time.
the touch of tim burton on a film immediately makes it not about whether or not it is convincing. and i almost always have to like characters in order to like a movie. i not only didn't like depp's wonka. i found him disgusting.
