just for clarification.....my understanding is that this proposition bans gay marriage....does it also ban the civil unions which are currently allowed under california law?
I don't think CA currently has civil unions, only marriage, what CA does is honor civil unions that occurred in other states. From the commercials I've watched the past few months, it looks like prop 8 is against the whole kit and caboodle, but I'll keep looking, because you have me curious now.
I think librissimma is right that CA doesn't allow civil unions. However, I don't think Prop 8 bans civil unions; what it does it defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
