we finally went and saw hellboy last night. i enjoyed it. it was definitely better than the first one. but i was disappointed after reading all the good reviews it was getting. it wasn't THAT much better than the first one, and the first one was a big disappointment to me. guillermo de toro is a genius. but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

my clapotis is coming along nicely. i am quite pleased.

You Clapotis looks great!

I was a little disappointed with the Hellboy movie, too. I didn't go in with any great expectations, other than it would look pretty, and it did pay that off in spades. It would make a great movie for ten-year-olds, really -- it's the kind of thing I would have gleefully watched at sleepovers. Which isn't a bad thing, really, it's just that it was a bit of a confection. Loved Doug Jones to bits, as usual, and overall I got the impression that everyone involved was having a hell of a good time, but that the studio execs probably saw the final cut and said, "We paid for this?!"

I am a HUGE fan of the comics, though, so I object a bit to the sow's ear comparison. :)

thanks!

hmmm...perhaps i should have been more specific. by "sow's ear" i was referring to the screenplay, not the comic.

Ohhhh! That makes much more sense! Have you seen any of the animated films? I thought in some ways they were worlds better than the feature films.

Pretty much the entire cast from the movies does the voices, which is neat. The animation is a little cheap, but they do a nice job of evoking Mignola's style.

this yarn is fingering weight cherry tree hill - supersock merino in the java colorway....it is really probably to light a weight (thickness) to make a hat...it's really more appropriate for socks or lace...but i will keep in mind that the colorway is close to what you are looking for for the hat.
