as you all are probably aware of, ross is working all the bloody time.
it's not his fault. things with this show have not gone as planned.
he's working ALL the time. he hasn't had a night off in over a week and isn't likely to have one for another week at least.

so i am on my own for planning, which normally is fine with me. i am content to hang out with my girlfriends, go to fairs and things he wouldn't be interested in anyway....and catch up on some down time and read.

....but friday is my birthday.
and i don't want to throw a party without him. it would feel like a betrayal.
i am thinking about getting my tattoo....but really i'm not sure what to do with myself. most of my friends in the area are either encumbered with babies or not returning my phone calls (not that i'm against babies. it just means i'd have to go to them, they couldn't come to me...and therefore doing something with a big group isn't much of an option). and while i do feel free to spend some money on myself (like the tattoo, which is small, or like taking myself out to dinner, which would be lonely), i'm not free to spend LOTS of money (like going to a spa).
do any of ya'll have any advice for what to do with my evening that will feel special?

*grumbles*

EDIT: thank you to all you people who left suggestions. it seems i have found a friend who is available so i will not be alone and i think i am going with the tattoo/sushi/pedicure option. :)

i find that baking helps

whenever I get stressed or lonely I start baking. If you asked my husband about my stress baking he'd tell you of 6 batches of cookies, a cake, and two loaves of bread.

Alternately turning up some music and dancing around with pets is also theraputic.
Perhaps watching a sappy movie or surfing the internet for knitting patterns or ebay for a funky yarn birthday present.

baking IS fun.
however i REALLY don't need to be eating the things i bake. the yarn is a nice idea.
i actually do have some llama fiber coming in the mail sometime soon. playing with fiber is definitely an option.

Hmm... If I had several evenings sans-[livejournal.com profile] kfringe, I would probably go in for a major stash-organizing and blocking extravaganza. But I'm not sure if that's Birthday Special enough.

Are there any foods or movies that you love but Ross absolutely can't stand? Those are good treats.

I would rent a favorite childhood movie and a favorite teen movie and have a nostalgia night.

Also you could treat yourself to a portion of spa experience like just a mani/pedi or just a massage or depending on funds both without getting the full treatment somewhere.

Could you sneak on the set of the show and at least be with Ross for the night?

Could you do the tattoo and then meet up with one "encumbered" friend for dinner? I bet kids would love to do the cake/hat/blowers thing.

I know what you mean about the encumbered friend, I always feel bad initiating interactions with my friends with kids, because I know that it is me essentially asking, "Can I come over to play?" You have to know someone well to do this regularly, even when you know that you are welcome and helping to keep the mother sane by providing adult conversation. Since we've moved, I've struggled because I hate having to do this with new people.

yeah, i could sit with ross at the musical. but he would have NO time to see me and i've already seen it once.

i have been considering popping on on encumbered friends. i have 2 possibilities in that direction, but one of them i already have plans to hang out with for most of the weekend (canning). which will be great fun, but i don't want them to get tired of me...the other is a possibility.

the pedicure is also a good idea.

what are you getting a tattoo of? i wish i could go with you!!! the last tattoo I got was while my husband was in cincinnati for a baseball game lol i'd been thinking about it for a while but then I was like, you know. i'ma do it!

(*pause for shameless plug*)
not sure how far away you live from bloomington but there's an origins store there in the mall of america. if they are anything like our store they will be more than willing to pamper you silly ;) or, you can get some awesome products to pamper yourself with at home. the products are all natural (we also have the first line of USDA certified organic products.. they have the most stringent standards) and the company is all about being sustainable and respecting the earth and all that... that's one of the reasons why I still work for them, because I love the company's mission and products so freaking much, lol. Plus you get $10 off on your birthday! :P and we're giving away free stuff right now too.< / shameless plug >

mm sushi... and a pedicure... that sounds marvelous!! i need some of both, and an eyebrow wax... yikes!

i am getting a tattoo of....DA DAH DUH...a solar eclipse. big surprise to everyone i know. :) i wish you could come too! it would be nice to meet you in person.

i am about 45 minutes away from bloomington. i have been to that origins. i don't tend to go to the real ritzy places because i have weird skin. it is SO dry and moody. i can't put anything on my face. not even soap. not even my handmade - super-gentle-i-know-every-ingredient-personally soap. it makes me break out. luckily if i don't put stuff on my face, i don't normally break out either.

i'm thinking the tattoo/sushi/pedicure combination is winning at the moment. and it looks like my friend corrin is going to come, so that will be good.

ha ;) very cool!! do you have a drawing? i'd love to see it!!

aww :( yeah sometimes people's skin is weird. i can definitely only use certain products cause my skin is sensitive, but the ones I do use have improved my skin 100000000x. You are lucky though, that it doesn't normally break out ;) my face is like a minefield if I don't exfoliate and tone!we have more than facial products though--lots of really fun body products too (including a pedicure set!).

i like the the tattoo/sushi/pedi combo too ;) sounds like a fun evening to me!! maybe a bottle of wine too, hehe. it's been too long since I had some sushi! (my husband is not a fan, unfortunately...)

i don't think we've ever been to a japanese steakhouse (despite my best efforts)... he will order chinese food but then scoff when I want to go eat basically the same thing at a restaurant.

lol my friends and i eat at peiwei a lot. <3!!

a japanese steakhouse is worth it for the show as much as for the food....which IS different from chinese. japanese steakhouses tend to have performance-based serving. it is best to go with a big group and all sit around a big performance/cooking area together.

Sorry about the bummer birthday coming up :( Chris and I will be down for the weekend (obviously) and we're going to the State Fair on Friday, so if that was part of your plans, you're more than welcome to try hooking up with us there! Our baby won't even be in the way (she's used to outdoor fairs by now).

We won't have our cell phones on (they've off for now - too expensive), but if we can make plans ahead of time, I'm sure we can make it work :) If, of course, you're interested. If not, no worries! Just hate thinking of you being alone on your b-day :(

We're somewhat unconventional & don't keep her on a schedule. She sets her own and usually can nap wherever we are. We do try to avoid having to transition from point a to point b too late at night if it will be a long trip (more than half an hour). Over Tired Baby is no fun! Our pediatrician actually said he thinks parents shoot themselves in the foot by adhering to too strict a schedule - makes for inflexible babies. Morgan tends to adapt pretty well!

Oh....I think all the ideas are great but I really want you to have someone to celebrate your birthday with you! I guess the thought of your eating birthday sushi alone causes me indigestion. I wish I could fly out there to have dinner with you and avoid watching you be tatooed. I can't believe you are doing that...the way you feel about needles!! Where are you putting it?

Waaaa...I have to go to Nashville. I will call you on your birthday. I really really really wish I could be with you. We would have fun. Maybe I will be able to eat sushi in Nashville while you eat it there...is that having sushi together??

I REALLY celebrate August 29. It is an important date that definitely changed my life!
Much love.
