2eclipseit is snowing. the first part of a major winter storm - so says the npr weather report. we are supposed to have an inch on the ground by noon.
but it is 35 degrees out and was in the high 40's all weekend.
this weekend was really cool.
i came home with a headache on friday that made me grumpy.
and even grumpier when ross tried to make me watch movie trailers on a blurry screen with the headache (blurry due to being pumped from the computer to the tv - big pictures work great, but itty bitty text notsomuch).
we decided not to go see a movie, because there were none we wanted to see. so we got olive garden take out and watched a netflix movie about john cusack camping with his son and morgan freeman as an assassin stuck in the same woods.
saturday was truly awesome in every way despite my waking up at 7:30 and not being able to go back to sleep. ryan gronhke came over to hang out. ross fixed his computer while i went to the grocer and the butcher. i spent $140 on meat. this is not to say i got a lot of expensive things. this is to reveal to you the extent to which we had no meat in the house. and okay, that also included a cabbage and some deli-sliced colby-jack....but still! i haven't been eating any meat for 2 months and there was NO meat in the house. now there all kinds of chicken, sausage, steaks, sandwich stuff and corned beef brisket for st. patty's day....ross is much happier. i still felt a little outrageous.
most of the afternoon was spent in character creation, however. ross has been jonesing to ST for a long time and came up with this truly fantastic idea: mage in the star wars universe....there are some changes. paradox depends on whether you are in sith controlled or jedi controled space, for example. there are no traditions. intent matters, not just what powers you are using. jedi and sith can do the same things, just for different reasons.
ross had everything set up for us to pair up as master and apprentice, bringing justice to the universe. we did 2/3 rock paper scissors for who got to be the master and get the extra arete point and such.
needless to say, ryan and i decided to be sith overlords. :) this is going to KICK ASS!
we drank too much wine and grilled pork chops, zuchinni and portabella mushrooms for dinner. dawn came over and joined us and it was the best time i can remember having in the recent past.
sunday was very casual i woke up at 8 (a little better), goofed off on the computer and watched raising helen (sucked) and frida (made of awesome because everything julie taymore touches turnes to genius) with ross. made corned beef and cabbage - ross and i both got upset stomachs from that.
it was good to have a lazy day because he has to work the gaelic storm concert tonight and i'm going to go see boiled in lead with ryan and susan. looks like i may be invited to a knitting get together tomorrow too, which is good because i need to get cranking on my brioche hat for ross. i frogged the whole thing this weekend. i just hope i've figured out what i was doing wrong.

i think it has to do with how fast the wind is blowing and in what direction.

Date: 2008-07-14 04:31 pm (UTC)ross has devised an alternative to paradox that i feel (and i believe ryan, my partner feels) is more true-to-world. what happens is that in the map of the universe, each area is controlled to one degree or another by the jedi or the sith. toward the core of the universe it is mostly jedi space and toward the outskirts the sith have control. this is listed as a rating number from 1-5. 5 being the heart of jedi space and 0 being sith space. a jedi can do magic with no consequences in 5 space and a sith can in 0 space and in the middle...the rating serves as an indicator of how much energy attention is drawn by the magic. also there IS neutral magic. my character (a sith) can use the force to grab an object and that will attract no jedi attention. but if i use it to throw 10 people against a wall and break their backs? that will grab some attention pdq. i approve whole-heartedly of this.
the only thing that is not working for me right now is not working for me AS a sith - ross originally created this for us to play as jedi. and the problem is this. i'm not much of a devious plotter. as a person, or as a player. i can come up with some really awesome stuff, but it takes me a long time, and preferably help. this is something that is SERIOUSLY lacking in this game for me right now. ryan and i don't talk about this game much outside of game, and so we don't have any great ideas about how to take over the universe at the start of every game. if we were jedi, the council would be directing the big picture and we wouldn't have to worry about it. but as sith, we are independant, and we are not playing GOOD sith right now because there is no sit-down time for plotting - and we really would need ross's help for this in order to make sure we had our facts straight. ultimately, i think it is a flaw in the sith side of the game because sitting down for long, drawn-out plotting sessions with the ST isn't most people's idea of fun.
