surprised to feel alert

i spent the night in the hospital last night.
not for me - i'm fine.
two nights ago, susan danukos made a stupid with her boyfriend's nephew's skateboard and broke her hip and her dominant wrist. actually, it wasn't that stupid. she was just standing on it and it slipped out from under her. she had surgery on her hip yesterday and is going in for surgery on her wrist today at 1pm. she is doing very well. the doctors say her bones look really good. the pt got her into a chair for a short while today and she has had remarkable tenacity avoiding her pain medication. she is also WAY braver with needles than i am. she is going to be just fine, but it is going to take some time.
in the meantime please excuse my absence. i am home for a bit to shower, brush my teeth, change my clothes and attend to the needs of my lonely kitties, but other than that i am at the hospital. i'm not working so there is no need for her to be alone.

the surgery today went really well. the surgeon said the wrist fit back together much better than he thought it would and his prognosis for her regaining full movement has improved!
another nice bonus is that i've gotten to spend some time getting to know michael, susan's boyfriend of about 2 months. the more i know him, the more i like him and like him for HER - which of course, is the important part.
she can't put any weight on her left hip, so stairs will be difficult. our house is close to her parents and has everything she might need on one floor - guest room, bathroom, kitchen, living room. so it looks like susan is going to stay with us for at least a few days after she gets out of the hospital. we get company! *dances*
i like taking care of people. it is not so lonely as spending all day running errands and applying for jobs and tormenting the cats.
i'm also really looking forward to getting a goodnight's sleep WITH my husband. i missed him last night.
