so i'm still coughing a lot and low energy. but i'm doing a bit better than i was. i am hoping to have this thing kicked soon.
today begins the annual shop hop! 7 LYS's (local yarn stores for the uninitiated) in the twin cities area are giving out door prizes and if you make it to all 7 over the weekend you get entered into a drawing for a big prize! sweet! i get to go explore a bunch of new yarn stores (i've only visited 3 of these before) and meet new people and get free stuff. score! okay and maybe i'll buy some yarn....if i find something in the colors i promised my neice.
additionally last night i frogged my jaywalkers for the 3rd time. apparently the third time really is the charm, because i haven't made any mistakes since and made significant progress last night. there just may be hope for me with patterned socks!

in other news i watched the fountain with ross last night...i'm still not sure if i liked it or not, though it was inarguably beautiful.

Yanno, I had exactly the same reaction to the Fountain. I'm still not sure if I think it was actually a good movie, but damn was it pretty!

Also, yay for yarn! :-D I'm almost back to where I was in my mom's Christmas sweater (Eris - very pretty, but such a pain in the ass!) before I changed my mind about how I was doing it and frogged all the way back to the collar, so I feel your pain. ;-)

exactly. and at the same time i'll see anything with hugh jackman in it just for the hot factor.

gorgeous! i think it's on my queue at ravelry. are you on there yet? i'd love to be able to look at all your projects and know that they are made by someone i've actually met in person! i haven't dared attempt a sweater yet, but i think i'm getting close to that point.
when do you knit? do you go to any knitting groups in real life? i've become aware that there are some in the dc area.

No, I'm not on Ravelry yet. I think I'm #2334538945908235 on the wait list. ;-) I need to get some FOs posted somewhere, though... I made Eris for myself (the pullover version - Mom's getting the cardigan) last spring, but haven't actually worn it yet.

As for when I knit - I hate to admit it, but mostly when I'm sitting in traffic on my commute. Only simple stockinette and similar, and only when traffic's not actually moving, of course, but it's scary how much I get done! Other than that, I'll knit when I'm waiting for an appointment, or watching a movie, or whatever.

Haven't looked into any local groups - no time until school's over at the end of the month! I'm theoretically the founder of a DC-area geek crafters group, but we've never actually managed to get together...

i don't know how you live with that commute, honestly. i have 2 ridiculously spoiled ideas that pertain to my mental health around cars: first, i should not have to pay at the places i park regularly. second, my commute should be 30 minutes or less. right now its about 15-20.
regardless i continue to be impressed with how many attitudes and interests we have in common. wish i'd known that when i lived there.

Heheh. Yeah, ain't that always the way? You discover someone or something cool... right after you've left the area. ;-)

And yeah, I'm none too happy with my commute, either. It's sucking my soul. But right now I can't afford to leave the company I'm with without a REALLY good offer (and I do have my resume out there, just in case), and I can't/don't want to move. So I'm stuck with it for now...

Let's pretend I wanted to bring you a skein of yarn as a "you are so nice, and thanks for having me as your guest" gift....
What color/yarn material are you in the mood for, or should I surprise you?

Note: Telling me you don't want a gift WILL result in surprise yarn. So there.

you play dirty!~

....and unfortunately i have just been to two yarn stores and been very very good and only bought things for other people....so my will is weak. i'm not going to fight you very hard.
what i am liking best right now is sock yarn - so fingering or dk weight. because you can make a whole pair out of one 100 gram skein. i like every color except pink and any fiber that is mainly not acrylic. you are very sweet to bully me into telling you what i like.:)

you do realize don't you, that bringing knit related gifts may result in random knitted garments showing up on your doorstep looking for a home?

I have finally gotten around to getting some of my pics up on Flickr and thus on Ravelry. (This is my knitting LJ, I realized I forgot to switch over to my other account.)

I'm sorry to hear you were sick :-(

And I agree with The Fountain, it was not at all what I expected from the trailers, but it was definitely a beautiful movie.

That's okay, we can get to know each other and be friends. Or, if you like, we can agree upfront to be rivals for the attention of other gamers and do battle for our mutual friends ;-)

only if you promise to listen to gossip from people who weren't really there and then spread exaggerated versions to people totally unrelated in order to prejudice them against me and all my friends! also you'd have to remember all your lies and get them wrong a lot and then make dramatic lj posts about how unfair and unreasonable i am. think you can manage?

i think it might be less work to just be friends.:)

Oh absolutely, I have been in OWBN long enough to know how to do all of that! We can take a nice friends' test drive first.
