fabulous weekend/horrible nightmare
Aug. 6th, 2007 08:34 amfabulous weekend.
friday i came home and caught about an hour nap before packing up and heading to st. cloud for the weekend. shawn, thistle, cedar, mike, adam cerling and i all congregated at john and tessa's for the weekend to play games together.
i got VERY lost on the way there, but it was made not only tolerable, but pleasant by the fact that i talked theology with my friend, mitchel for most of the drive.
then i stayed up til the wee hours of the morning (about 5am) playing a tabletop rpg based on greek mythology called agon. john and i got our asses handed to us by the shade of orion. it was great. i would have liked the change to finish, but we needed sleep.
the rest of the weekend involved good food, good company and several new games that i am lusting after, first among them a card game that crosses NASCAR with call of cthulu. it is appropriately named cthulu 500. obviously everyone needs zombies and blood sacrifice with their racing! we also played a cheap-ass game involving mining meteors and blowing up spacecraft that i don't remember the name of, lunar rails(a train game) and a hunter/gatherer game that i also don't remember the name of. good stuff though. ross and i sent one another affectionate text-messages and talked a couple times during the weekend. i missed him, but i wouldn't have gotten to see him even if i'd stayed home. it was a 5 show weekend for him. he went out to a fire at
wilderheart 's folks place saturday night and i was very happy about that because it means he got SOME time with friends. he just doesn't get as much contact with people during a show like this and i worry for him.
i came home, dropped off some film to be developed that is at LEAST 2 years old(and which i think may include the roll i took with
votishal and
cuddlejunkie1 . i'm getting everything on cd and i will put anything that is any good on the gallery. tessa's mad organization skills inspired me so i organized and cleaned. i am getting ambitious about the basement but that is a project for more than one night. then i headed over to ryan grohnke's house where there was much more dicussion of theology. fabulous weekend even if i did stay up way past my bedtime.

horrible nightmare last night.
I was a sick boy, about 11 in the middle of an organized genocide. I don’t remember what group was being persecuted – it wasn’t jews – but the weak of constitution were killed just as easily. I escaped being put to death, first because I was hidden by my mother ( a dour woman who is not really my mother) and later because I won a scholarship.
The persecuted group was not sent to camps – they were starved. They wandered the streets looking skeletal, begging for food, and anyone who helped them was shot. If they pretended not to have arms they were ridiculed when they were found out. They walked, but the looked like they were already dead. Messages and home-raised rabbits were snuck to families in need. Sometimes the rats got them first.
We hid two of them in our house. My mother didn’t want to, but she acceded because the first fellow had money and got her to take pity on the other. The one with money convinced her with the good food we could get because of him. He was a tall, educated man with a grey beard and refined manners and his instruction enabled me to get my scholarship. He died of his own illness and we had to sneak his body into an alleyway to be carried away because we didn’t dare be caught with it. It was a horrible dream and it woke me up, still seeing the cadaverous faces of the starving.

Date: 2007-08-10 12:05 pm (UTC)each player has a robot each robot has a lazer that shoots forward at the end of every turn. there is a race between 3 different flags. you have to get to them across a board that has conveyor belts that turn or move in a direction. there are also situations in which robots can move one another. between each turn you program your robot choose up to 9 cards. during the turn, the robot has to do what you have programed it to do - which usually but doesn't always result in getting where it is supposed to go. at the end of the turn your lazer fires...and so does everyone else's. if you are damaged, you get one less card for programming per turn until you power down for repair.(skip a turn). things can still happen to you while you are powered down. your robot can be completely destroyed if it takes enough damage. there are also some pretty neat modifications you can add. first person to reach all 3 flags in order wins.
