it has been snowing every couple of days the last week. it snowed a good long while yesterday,we have a 40% chance tomorrow, and we are supposed to get more a couple of days after that.
so i went out cross country skiing today.
it was the first time in many years.
i fell down 4 times. my ass HURTS!
i really need to learn to handle hills. i think the wax i put on the bottom of the skis just made things way too slippery. anyway i had a nice 3-hour ski and i am sore - more from falling down than from the exercise, although there's some of that too - and i don't think a shower ever felt so good. taking my ipod made it so much more fun. it was almost like there was another person with me.
the minnesota park system is awesome. i've never lived in a state that takes such good care of it's public services. the libraries (as i've mentioned) are awesome and the map the lady at the park entrance gave me shows parks everywhere. really big ones. apparently the passes i bought today (one for my car for the year and one for skiing for 3 years) will allow me to use any of them! i'm thrilled.
today i went out on a lake for the first time. i think i will wait til i am more experienced to do that again. it was beautiful to be out there with the lake grasses poking through and no one out there but me....but the ripples in the ice were the reason i fell down at least once. i was eager to get into my stride, but i couldn't because everytime i did i got jerked out of it by some instability in the path....apparently there was not enough snow to be groomed properly for traditional skiing.

so now i am home and my computer is still broken. i went out and got a new hard drive this weekend and ross has put it in along with some additional RAM he had extra. he brought the disks he needs to fix it home from work today so hopefully it will work again this week. i feel bad that it is broken, and kinda irritated at the guy who owned the computer that crashed into mine...but at the same time, it is risky to take your machine to a LAN party and i knew that. i don't feel like he should have to pay for it. ross and i differ on this issue.

so now i am back to working on the paper and job-searching. ross brought his laptop home for me to work on, so that we can stay out of one another's hair (ie. i can be out of the study when he is making noise). that will be nice.

oo! another thing. heather keiweg and i went to go see the glass menagerie at the guthrie last friday. ALL kinds of AWESOME! totally worth it if you are in the area. i love tennessee williams anyway, but this is done very well. kudos to all who worked on it.
