haven't done a real update in a while, so here you go:

so wesley seminary, normally a place about which i have nothing but good things to say, is on my poop-list.
or at least the registrar's office is, i'm actually quite happy with their IT devision.

about a week and a half ago i called to get help registering for my MTS paper (my big frickin' paper that they won't quite call a thesis because apparantly we're not cool enough for that). the girl i talked to was new. i'll totally give her that. it's hard to be put on the spot your second day on the job. but she basically couldn't help me. she said she couldn't register me and that i needed to contact IT, nevermind that they've helped me in that EXACT way before. she also told me that i am missing a form to graduate and can't graduate in the spring.
!*#@%!

no one told me i needed to have this form in, and i live 17.5 hours away! i don't take regular classes! it is a bit hard for me to stay in the loop if they won't TELL me these things. so now i have to petition the dean in order to graduate this year. fun.

i DID contact IT. and they got back to me promptly with the information i needed.

however i went to a LAN party this weekend (thank you for your hospitality [livejournal.com profile] eltanin and [livejournal.com profile] wilderheart. and one of the guys there bumped the on/off switch on my computer. it promptly died. ross thinks that it mis-wrote to the hard drive and that i may have lost everything....but he doesn't know and he's in tech so he doesn't have time to fix it. normally i would just use his computer instead, but when i booted it up, it came up in safe mode and i'm afraid to touch it. i powered it down. i am currently writing from the library after successfully registering for my class (thank GOD) and finding oodles of information about places i can go cross country skiing if we ever get more than 3 inches of snow.
my big success for the day.

so these days i spend a lot of time at the library.
mostly not on the computer. mostly sitting in front of the fire (yes, libraries have fireplaces AND coffeeshops in minnesota - one of the reasons i'm happy here) and working on my paper or getting distracted by the immense science fiction section.

The libraries in Minnesota sound totally seductive and wonderful...the kind of place where you could hang out all day. I want to visit one next time I am there.

Tell me more...

well ross has had a look at it. he says that the force that knocked the start button was hard enough to knock askew the arms with the magnets that read and write to the hard drive. pretty much we are in send-it-away-to-retrieve-vital-information-for-$400 land. and i'm pretty sure there is nothing on there that is worth near that much. most of my important data is kept on our server.
regardless, i need a new hard drive. thank goodness ross is in the business of building computers for people and can get distributor-level prices.
