i had my first belly dancing lesson.
i was late because i had to go to the bank first and then there was an accident. i was a bit surprised at how some things seemed totally unnatural for my body to be doing (like anything invovling a shimmy)and some things i did like i'd always done them (like the variations on jazz walking). people in the class were really nice and a couple of total strangers were kind to me.
i think this is going to be very fun.
and there is a henna party on the 15th involving several professional artists, performances by the local company and snuggling with a bunch of girls on blankets and pillows and having our bodies painted and snacky sort of stuff.
i can handle that.

also, i MAY have figured out luther's puking problem. i was trying to think what had changed for them....when i moved up here i got the kitties a new drinking bowl. one with a filter that recirculated the water in a fountain.....i have switched back to regular water bowls and so far so good. we shall see.

Yeah, I'm right there with you on the bellydancing thing. When I was taking a class at a community center a year or so back, some bits (mostly the arm movements and anything that involved stepping or moving the whole body) were easy as hell, but anything involving isolation (unfortunately, pretty much the cornerstone of bellydancing) I just couldn't make work. Perhaps if I'd had a better teacher, I would've figured it out eventually... Good luck, though! It was hella fun, even if I sucked. :-)

Sorry 'bout the phone last night. It was a pleasure, as always, even for the little time I had :)

i am sure you weren't nearly as bad as you think you were. you are very graceful. isolations are seriously hard. do you have any suggestions on where to find cool dance belts? apparantly i need one.

Hrm. Well, I found mine at a shop in Georgetown, but that doesn't help you much. ;-) Check Asian/Indian import stores? Definitely get one, though, they're REALLY helpful - makes it easier to know when you're doing things right, cuz they jingle quite nicely. :-)

Yeah, I'd love to try again with lessons, preferably from an instructer who wasn't so horrible! :-) Alas...
