Aug. 9th, 2005 06:53 pmi will be home in less than a week!
so much has been happening up this way. last weekend we went and saw ross's extended family and delt with his mom's wedding chaos...which seems to have temporarily died down.
this week i updated my resume and sent it out to man-power. i probably won't get a real job until after the wedding due to being gone so much, but there's no reason i can't bring in SOME money. and today my insurance agent (everyone is som DAMN nice up here) called me to tell me this faith-based organization that does affordable housing needs a part-time co-ordinator and she is sending me the information and would be HAPPY to provide an introduction....
yipe!
this weekend i stained the outside of our privacy fence who likes to come over when ross and i are in the hot tub and chat with us. i imagine he thinks he is being friendly and charming. never mind that when ross and i are out it is usually after 11pm and we are tired...and might be naked...and sometimes have company (although not at the same time)...he just wanders up and starts talking to us about snow-mobiling....or how much i'm going to hate it when it gets cold up here (it's been in the 90's mostly)...or how annoying it is that his wife wants him to act like an adult....grrrr. hence the privacy fence. he hasn't come over since we put it up.
and then we went to visit ross's grandparents. it was very pleasent to spend time with them and we stayed for quite a while. i was a little worried that they were going to try to give us everything in the house. as it was we got some LOVELY stained glass done by his grandmother - who is REALLY talented and creative - and a really .....well...it's not exactly UGLY...just not to my taste....we got a lamp. the artwork on it is skilled. i just don't want my house looking like a hunting lodge.
YES i love nature. NO i don't want to decorate indiscriminately with north woods scenes. Ross has about talked his mom out of giving him wolf prints. i haven't actually talked to him about the lamp yet. if he likes it, we will find a place for it. but i am glad we are only getting married once.
we did get to go see his grandfather's workplace....which might not be so interesting anderson funeral homes was THE place you wanted to take care of your loved ones remains in montevideo. still is. it sounds to me like they give almost unheard of consideration to their clients. including a xmas time memorial service for everyone who has lost a loved one during the year. pretty cool. yeah, i'm a little morbid. but i was curious. we got to see the offices and the chapel and the display coffins and urns. they have their own crematorium and i also got to see where they prepare bodies, the tools they use to do it, the shipping area where embalmed remains are sent from place to place, and the garage complete with hearse (and mini-van convertable to hearse). pretty damn cool.
a long time ago, ross's great grandfather was the first one to have a team of clydesdales to bring bodies in from the company...as a result both he and ross's granddad wound up serving as the ambulance for the community as well as the undertakers. family businesses can be so interesting.
now my sister is making me nuts. we talked this past winter about a flower-girl dress for my neice, rachel i told her i wanted something in lavender. then she sent me an e-mail telling me she would like pink better, but would adhere to my wishes and go with lavender.
then she goes out and buys a CORAL dress and is unwilling to accept that it is not the right color. i'm about ready to strangle her. my mother is handling it, god bless her.
