I think you've already at least alluded to some of them, but what issues are those on which you consider yourself conservative?

hmmm...well i want a balanced budget and i want the government restricted from touching SS funds.
i just want them to balance the budget by taking money away from the military and from govt. excess instead of from programs that help the poor, libraries, museums and public parks.
i believe in the separation of church and state - which is a conservative view, believe it or not.
i believe that the government should not be into micro-managing, but should leave most things to the states.
i believe that outsourcing programs is a good idea IF there is a system for keeping businesses accountable to the people.
i believe in enforcing the laws we have instead of making lots of new ones we won't enforce. and also in repealing laws that don't make sense.
i believe in the right to own a gun and that parents should educate their children (and keep guns away from children) so that accidents don't happen. i think hunting is awesome as long as you eat what you kill.

i think there are one or two others...but i'm not remembering them at the moment.

Good point--it's easy for me to forget sometimes that the Republicans are not really conservatives on issues other than economics.

Do you have an example of outsourcing that is accountable?

Summer goes by so fast. We really should get 'round to meeting. I believe [livejournal.com profile] viksin finally has a free Saturday this weekend, and I do as well. How about you and your fellow? Shall we have dinner at Merlin's, and perhaps a game?

I came out socialist too..!! 66% socially liberal, 16% financially liberal. Surprised me a little...yet some of the statements were so extreme that they called for an extreme response.
But I agree, they did not ask a sufficient range of questions for the thing to be really accurate.

i'm not to clear on the question.
do you mean do i have a specific example of the government taking appropriate steps to make a contracted business accountable?
no.

if you mean can i explain a bit more, yes i can.
government contracts, once given to a contracter, are paid with tax money...my opinion is that the companies that get them need to be accountable to the taxpayers for that reason. a contracter that drags a job out to get more money or that doesn't complete the job and says they did, or that does the job poorly - should owe backpayments to the government/taxpayers and possibly be tried for fraud. i don't think we have a solid enough system in place to ensure this.

Ah. Okay. I got confused in part by your use of the present tense rather than conditional, I think.

What makes you say that's a conservative position, then? The notion of having contractors rather than government employees doing the work?

yup.
the traditional conservative view is that private organizations are better at getting things done than the govt. so generally they are also in favor of putting in place the systems that will allow that to happen.

Sorry about the late response. We're having problems with our internet connection, but we're at Merlin's right now, just about to order dinner.
