so i made it through yesterday.
apparently my tonsils were bigger than dr. manger thought they were. tonsils are cave-dwelling creatures and mine had bigger caves than he guessed and therefore had more room to grow. also the doctor actually had to take out part of my septum, not just move it out of the way. but he didn't take out as much as he thought because my left turbinate (heat-exchange tissue in the sinuses kind of like a hill on the side of your sinus)was a bigger problem than he had been able to see before.
i went into surgery at around 11 and was in for about 2 hours. i had some pretty bad pain problems, so i didn't get home til around 5. the lady who put my IV in was not very good, so they found out in the OR that it wasn't in correctly. i had nitris for the first time while they put it in right. everything i've heard about nitris is right. you feel it. you don't care.
all the anesthesiologist (who was awesome) had to do was use the word "stinky" in a sentance and i was cracking up...and i really don't remember anything after that until the recovery room, nice dr. manger, and my pain issues.
haven't noticed too much pain in my nose really. it is all in my throat...and in my stomach yesterday. i did have to throw up yesterday...but it was all water and drugs because that was all i had eaten.
i got my packing out today. i never knew they could fit a tampon up your nose. but that is pretty much what they did plus a breathing tube. it didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable. and i bled into a pan for a long time afterward. it is SO good to be able to breathe through my nose again. and SLEEP@! i can sleep for an hour at a time now instead of only a half hour. that is wonderful. pretty much all i do is take drugs (liquid percacet every 4 hours and 500 mg of REALLY strong antibiotics that knock me on my ass 4 times a day), sleep, drink water and go to the bathroom. i haven't even been able to stay awake long enough to watch bsg or read. ross has been an absolute angel for taking care of me. he made me some broth and i managed to drink a little of that today. it might be the drugs...but i'm feeling pretty proud about that. he has also got the wonderful and amazing
oneonajourney, our lovely and talented massage therapist buddy, scheduled to come kick the knots out of our muscles a couple times. i'm not really suffering from knots too much right now. the drugs have me VERY relaxed. but it is still nice. madeliene is my constant shadow. she spends all most all her time curled up on the foot of the bed or in the crevice of my legs. i can't tell if she is worried about me or if she just likes it that i am home. :) it doesn't really matter.
anyway. hopefully my next post will have more progress to report and also be more coherent.
