i am awake

ridiculously late. 5:47 to be exact. because i am writing a paper on the civil rights movement. okay, so it's not ACTUALLY about the civil rights movement, but it may as well be. it is about congressman john lewis. seems like he was a pretty cool guy.
but let me say i don't remember the last time i had to write a BOOK REPORT!
granted, a five page book report, but that is pretty much what this is, regardless.

that said, this has been a pretty good day.
ross is coming to visit me starting thurs....pretty sure i will NOT be at game that night. got some really great pictures back of my trip to minneapolis, although there was also a lot of defraction because of the mist so some of them didn't come out the way i'd intended. and i got a new cell phone. same number, for those who care, so you can still reach me there. but i am finally shut of AT&T. vile bastards.
and i am thrilled with my new phone! it has a camera (that i will probably never use for anything other than my amusement)but mostly what i care about is that it is still a flip phone, has a good battery life, has caller id available w/o answering the phone, good reception and has the phone book organized so that i can store multiple numbers under each person's name. it is a sanyo and i highly recommend it so far.
i spent most of the day reading this book i had to write on. which was mostly enjoyable.

there was a bit of bad news.
i spoke to a couple of friends today today (they are a married couple up in PA and i am speaking of this sans names for reasons of sensitivity). the husband was my next door neighbor and my best friend for much of college. anyway it turns out that their baby was stillborn. they induced labor and the mother is fine. they are having a service tomorrow and i won't be able to make it because i have class til 12:30 here and the service is in milleville, pa. so i am bummed about that. she was only 3-ish months along, but it is a loss for them all the same. prayers directed their way will be appreciated by yours truly.

anywho. i'm going to get back to work. i will be in class til 12:30 tomorrow, after which you can expect me to be asleep.:)

That is never an easy circumstance. I hope they came through it okay.

they did....and they had a little boy two novembers ago. he is a joy and a delight to both of his parents.....who unfortunately are now getting a divorce. i love them both, but one is lousy at communicating and the other is lousy at listening.

i hope so. simon is not yet two and doesn't understand most of what is going on. he is living with jen(his mom) and her folks in bum-fuck-nowhere-pennsylvania. his father has gone to DC (where he is staying with my parents)to work on finishing his phd - the most positive thing he's done for himself in years. he goes to visit simon when he can. jen doesn't really want much to do with mitch....and he's been a real pain, so i can understand why....but i hope they can resolve into something like their old friendship.

Always the hope when there's a child involved. Even one that young, things still touch and still cut, it's just deeper, and harder to track down later.
