so i just got back last night from the virginia annual UMC conference where
sunmother was commissioned as a deacon and my buddy justin white was ordained as an elder. overall, i'm glad i went. i had a good weekend. but i think i must have SERIOUSLY bad travel mojo. i must have done something awful to deserve my travel drama this week.
starting friday i got to the airport and didn't realize that i was flying with two separate airlines. i waited in the wrong line and missed my flight. i was VERY upset, but an awsome northwest employee helped me out when the woman at the ticketing counter was just mean to me(both will be getting letters to their managers saying how awesome/not awesome they were). i got on a later flight and flew down to dc. my pilot decided to take the long way around some storms. the plane was a hour late. it was good to see my folks and
sunmother and i went to the gathering at bell haven park for worldwide knit in public day. we met some really nice people and the weather was awesome and hot (which i haven't had enough of this year). then
zankoku_zen and her man and i had coffee together, which was really nice, and i got mad crazy bpaly goodness from her (and for which i need to send paypal).
then my folks and i went out for dinner for father's day. it was a very powerful night. dad asked us to talk about why we appreciate him and i wound up making everyone cry and brow-beating my dad into being kinder to himself...which probably won't work because he doesn't listen to me when i say nice things to him.
( virginia conference )tuesday i was supposed to leave. you caught the "supposed" in that sentance? they cancelled my flight. to their credit. united really went nuts trying to rebook things - but cheaptickets.com sucks in obscene, debauched ways. the two legs of the trip were put together separately, so that each airline could only see their own part - and therefore they couldn't get me a new flight without charging a fee and making me a day late for work. they did give me a travel voucher and put me up for the night. and i got to talk to ceci and
jtheta and have a good meal with my folks (is there anything better than rare wasabi tuna?) and watch a silly movie... but it still sucked. i had to get up at 4 am and then from 7-5 i was in dc. the bright spot was that ceci picked me up and helped me break into my parent's house (i called them and told them afterward), i got a short nap, and i got to hang out with
cuddlejunkie1 who was kind enough to take me to the airport. about the time the plane was ready to take off, however we had a storm with lightening that kept our plane grounded. and when i finally did get to MSP, my baggage didn't come with the baggage from the rest of the flight...which meant we waited for an extra half hour hoping it would come....and then found it in a separate pile on our way to go register a complaint with the airline....they had booked my luggage on an earlier flight, but not me. grrrr.
so all in all, my travel experience could have used some work. it was VERY good that i had my book and my knitting with me. it was VERY good (and fortunate) that my boss wasn't mad at me, even though he didn't get the e-mail from ross saying i wouldn't be in yesterday. i am still counting my blessings...but my advice to everyone is that you avoid doing business with cheaptickets.com at all costs....unless you like serious traveling mayhem.
