so i went to the annual conference again yesterday...which involved getting up at 6:30am because i live so far away from st. cloud and things started at 8am.
there were a bunch of legistlative petitions (like 20 or so) that got voted to send to general conference, all dealing with opening up exclusive language and gay rights. EVERY LAST ONE PASSED!!!! things like this make me very proud to live here.

in addition, there was a wonderful worship service involving commissioning and certifying local pastors, probationary pastors, associate pastors and the like. the speaker was quite good, but i can't remember his name. then i went to a lunch for seminarians where i was very out of place. they SAID seminarians. it was ACTUALLY for people getting ordained. it irritates me how often it is assumed that anyone going to a seminary is getting ordained by a church.
the good thing was that i met this zimbabwean woman, erica sagauke there. turns out she knows patrick mitsikanyiri (sp?) who taught her music at africa university. the same patrick mitsikanyiri (sp?) who came and taught choir at wesley for a semester and who we visited while we were in zimbabwe! she was kinda quiet during the meeting but she really lit up after we discoverd we knew some of the same people and places. she is doing incredible volunteer work all over minneapolis, doesn't live far from me and loves to play the djambe. i am hoping to get together for coffee with her at some point.
i also met an old guy named william who is a retired minister and a career coach. he said he might have some contacts for me in the twin cities area. that would be SO wonderful.

i have been doing a lot of gardening. i transplanted six tomato plants this week (still not sure how many are regualar tomatoes and how many will produce tiny yellow ones). my catnip is flourishing as are my peppers, nasturtiums and marigolds. i am surprised by how much pride i feel in my garden. i also have chamomile, curry, butterfly weed, lemon thyme, dill and three different kinds of climbing vines that i have mostly started from seed. i hope to get some sage and rosemary going soon. there is nothing like cooking with the fresh stuff you grew yourself.

today i spent about an hour and a half job-searching with no pleasant results, and have been working on staining the fence. the section i was working on that is not yet attached is finished, but the inside of the part already up is not even close. jess is going to come over and make hula hoops and keep me company while i work.
then i think we are going to an ice cream social with susan and michael. i've never been to an ice cream social. i probably wouldn't go to this one except it is the one day of the year when you can go up in the witches' tower - the one from War For The Oaks for all you other fantasy geeks out there.
susan and michael are going to be staying at susan's place this weekend because dusty is going to come down and help ross with work at the guthrie and it would just be too crazy to have so five people AND two large dogs AND the cats in the house. particularly since our basement is not finished and we really only have one "hang out" room in the house. i did not ask susan and michael to leave - only that they find another place for the dogs over the weekend, but they decided that it is best for them to just stay at susan's.
