everything is well in MN today but the weather is having an identity crisis. it rained in the morning, was sunny in the afternoon. rained around 4 and now is sunny again. weirdness. last night i went out with ross's friend jory and his sister alicia and got coffee and bummed around U of M. it was pretty nice. class this morning and then i slept most of the afternoon away. i had a stomach ache after that, but it is starting to go away so i will probably start staining trim tonight.
please welcome [livejournal.com profile] illusionstar my longest friend who lives in PA. she is the prop master at the arden theatre up there and one hell of a wonderful person!

tagged by [livejournal.com profile] zankoku_zen I have added to this somewhat. So sue me. I'm opinionated.

Number of books I own: hundreds. i have 4&1/2 floor to ceiling bookshelves full. that is w/o combining my liberary with ross's (a work in progress) and minus the books i have lent to people....i think [livejournal.com profile] pheonix930 still has a couple of them. i KNOW there are others out there i have lost track of.

Last books I bought: er....for school i bought a bunch of hebrew stuff this week. i don't think that is the spirit of this question though. i have the new harry potter book pre-ordered.

Last book I read: I just reread "Boy From The Burren - Book 1 of The Painter" by Sheila Gilluly. Dumb title. excellent book. it is too bad she is out of print.
I am currently reading: "Gathering of Old Men" by Ernest Gaines. really neat novel about race relations in 1970's Louisiana.

5 books that are important to me: [there are WAY more than this. and i'm assuming you all know i would list the Bible, so i'm moving on to less obvious choices]
1) "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran incredible wisdom by which i try to live my life.
2) "Nichomachean Ethics" by Aristotle changed the way i view LOTS of things. my favorite quote from it is still "what is good for a man and a fish is different, but what is white and what is straight is always the same". it is a bad example of the brilliance contained in this book, but for some reason it just amuses me.
3) "Watership Down" by Richard Adams. adult fiction about rabbits. very political. love it.
4) "The Little Bookroom" by Eleanor Farjeon. truly unique fairy tails that (with the exception of "the giant and the mite") i have never found anywhere else. if you are tired of being limited to anderson or grimms, you should check this out.
5) "Hailstones and Halibut Bones" by Mary O'Neil. This book is poetry for children about colors and accurately describes why i love brown. It has had a special place in my heart since i was little.

2 books i hated:
1) The Great Gatsby
2) Catcher In The Rye
I read to learn something or to escape. I didn't learn anything from these books and they were filled with things i was trying to escape FROM. YUCK.

now for the requisite tagging of 5 people. with apologies if people have been previously tagged and i didn't catch it.
