apparently there has been another incident of cannibalism in the international media, a guy named Armin Meiwes ate a guy who begged to be eaten. has this popped up in us papers anywhere? no, of course not. but you can bet the rest of the world knows about jeffrey daumer(sp?) and the like. it is always so discouraging to me to see how the media selects what is and is not important to tell the american public. cannibals in 1st world countries? does that seem unimportant to ya'll? hell i think it's pretty important in 3rd world countries, but we don't hear much of that either.

The difference, I think, is in the choice.

It can hardly be labeled a travesty if they guy was of reasonably sound mind and WANTED to be eaten.

Their selection is hardly based on any value that the information itself may have, it's simply for shock value because shock sells.

Considering that the main purpose of the current news media (regardless of political affiliation) is to exert some degree of CONTROL over what people are thinking about the information they are fed moreso than to present information and allow people to decide for themselves, the elimination of this news story makes perfect sense.

Marketing and Advertising are the new news.
