You mean the mph you (or random average person) are traveling? No, don't know really... Maybe 15 mph? 20? That's just a wild guess, though.

i mean more like, how long would it take the average person to go 7 miles type thing.
right now it is taking me an hour and a half to go 13-16 miles. but that's on my 3rd highest gear(mostly) and with lots of wind and hills. do you think that's slow?
i'm also trying to figure out how long it will take me to get to work. i'll do a test run on sunday to be sure....but in the meantime i'm anxious about it.

Ahhh. Hrm. That's hard to tell, too, and depends a lot on the rider and hugely on the type of bike. When I was in top shape and biking to work fairly regularly, I'd still get zipped past by guys on road bikes, since I was on a mountain bike. But I'd say you're making good time - it usually took me about an hour to an hour and a half to go about 11 miles, on fairly even terrain, depending on the wind and my fatigue levels.

(Damnit, now I want to go biking. But I really ought to be studying...)

wow

I wish I had your enthusiasm for exercising and bike ridding! I am too scaredy-cat to ride mine on the streets here.

i was scared to ride into dc when i was living with my folks. the roads were just too busy. and when you are in the city it's really important to ride a crappy bike.
my enthusiasm really has to do with suddenly not being bored while i exercise and the immense energy i feel in everything else i do when i excercise regularly. i spend an hour and a half on the bike and then everything else gets more fun. i'd call that a deal!
but also the adrenaline is addictive.

Dude. I go mountain biking with (albeit limited these days) regularity, taking my life into my own hands careening down crazy narrow trails, through streams, and around trees at breakneck speed. But even I wouldn't want to ride in DC on a weekday. That's just nuts. ;-)

Wow, that's awesome!
I would be terrified to ride on the road -- when cars go by me on a bike, I freak out. Sounds like you have more guts than I do!
