what a nice weekend. mostly.

for thanksgiving we had ross's parents over to our place. we still have oodles of leftovers because they refused to take anything back except the bread and the orange jello salad (i am not a big fan of said salad). then we watched battle star galactica episodes and our friend susan came over with guinness, her dog. the dog is very mild and our cats didn't even freak out a little bit. it is good to know that they can handle dogs.
luther is still having puking issues and this weekend i drew the line. so of course he crossed it and now i have a big mess to clean up.
basically, the vet told me that she needs a stool sample to do anything productive about his diagnosis. it's not the easiest task. i finally resorted to quarantining luther away in the guest room. let me tell you how much he liked that. he peed on the guest bed.
i think it is because he was pissed(no pun intended), but it may have been more about not being able to fit comfortably in the smaller of our two litter boxes. in anycase, top removed, i DID get a stool sample to take in after about a day and a half of waiting. now i just have to wash all the sheets and get the comforter dry-cleaned.

ross and i put up our xmas decorations this weekend only to find that a tub of grandma's handmade house decorations specifically set aside for me by her (note included) before she died did not make it to minnesota. i freaked out and ross had to spend the rest of the afternoon calming me down and talking to my mom because i was too much of an incoherent mess. i am so embarrassed. it turns out that the things i was MOST upset about are still in mom's possession, but i still feel like a heel. my grandma died when i was nine. i was here favorite grandchild (the only girl), and anything she made is a big deal to me.
then of course, i had a headache and couldn't do anything useful for the rest of the day so i read www.questionablecontent.net/ instead. kinda like an indie-culture queen of wands....

what's worse about the whole incident is that later in the weekend i managed to knock over our xmas tree (i have expressly forbidden myself to go anywhere near it now) and break some of ross's very nice xmas ornaments made by HIS grandma (who thankfully is still with us). ouch. he has forgiven me, but i still feel terrible about it. i think he is sick of hearing me apologize, but i'm not sure what to do to make it up to him.

anyway, sunday i went to church and just had a wonderful time. i told the head pastor(bryce) that i was in seminary and interested in human rights work and he paraded me over to donna, the associate pastor for interrogation. she is involved with some interfaith work and also wants to involve me in seventy thousand thigns the church is doing and btw do i want to have coffee with her. i liked her very much, her sermon was VERY wesleyan. i approve.
i also got asked out for coffee with a girl my age named gail who works as the youth director and made friends with an OT named abby. i have inherited my mother's positive bias toward OT's and PT's. every last one i've met has been wonderful.
also a lady in church heard me singing and asked me to join the choir. it was very flattering. i am planning on going to their knitting group (free instruction) next tues. and habitat for humanity on the 10th and ross is going to a youth fundraising dinner (for ASP if you know what that is) with me on sunday. it feels SO good to be getting involved with a church again. it is a little too contemporary for me (it is a blended service and i could really do WITHOUT the overhead projectors), but the order of worship is traditional, the cross is central in the sanctuary, we sing hymns from the hymn book and the main supplement and only about half the lyrics to the contemporary music are theologically unacceptable....so i'm doing alright so far.

yesterday was spent in st. cloud, visiting with chris and theresa, who just bought a house up there (plainesville, actually). ross and chris put foam insulation in the garage as a trade for a REALLY nice arts and crafts style buffet table chris is building for us. he has his own business making custom cabinetry and this is going to be gorgeous (not to mention we will have a place to put our china). i'm very excited. i also did a little work up there on my thesis. really enjoying kathryn tanner.
we beat it out of there before the storm. we have about an inch of snow on the ground now and i am really enjoying it.
