general life update
Feb. 1st, 2007 01:47 pmi have had a productive week.
ross got my computer working again, and that is a big relief, but i still spend copious amounts of time on his laptop, mainly to get away from his noise.
ross works from home a lot. and takes phone calls that require him to be on the computer. his talking disrupts my work. he also games and talks through a mike to his team-mates. this is even more disruptive, because i have to listen to his teammates through the speakers.
so i sit in my living room by a window with my legs crossed under me and luther monopolizing my lap until my feet fall asleep. off and on madelenie becomes my chair's gargoyle. they can be as much of a distraction as ross, but i mind it less.
i have applied several more jobs and made some progress on my paper. all my notes are typed up now, and i have reviewed them and seen that in some places i got ridiculous and immoderate. my outline has already begun changing and i've got about a paragraph of my introduction written. the introduction is always the hardest to write. i am waiting to hear back from dr. mitchell about the notes i sent her and the ideas i have about how the paper will progress. i think the paper is due around march 15th. it is weird to think about being done.
tonight ross and i have german class. i got the books we need this week and i am quite excited to go. i love german. i love languages, but especially i love german. since it is a beginner class and i have had a conversational class and was engaged to a german major/child of a german teacher, i expect to be ahead of the class. still the workbook looks like it has plenty of things that will challenge me.
strangely enough it seems that i have a knitting group. i never set out to join one, but when my friend corrin asked heather and i to teach her to knit, we started getting together every week..usually on wednesdays. we meet at 7 and usually stay up til 11:30 or so knitting. last night involved a trip to the yarn store for sock yarn. i am still feeling guilty about the money i spent. it is really nice to have girl time. it's even nicer to feel like i'm getting close to people who have time to be close friends with me. heather and her husband are gamers and so i get together with them for games sometimes too. last weekend i went to their place (ross pooped out) to play kill dr. lucky, a game that is kinda like clue, but backwards. it was lots of fun.
i am starting to be really nuts about podcasts. the only problem is that i don't have room for everything i want to put on myipod. here are my favorites:
escape pod - sci-fi short stories
variant frequencies - sci-fi and horror short stories
cast on - a really neat knitting podcast
fearless cooking - a video podcast done by my friend allan piper's wife, grace up in nyc. she cooks food people are afraid of. i sent her an e-mail this week daring her to cook haggis. we'll see what happens.
today i tried to go out cross country skiing again, but the conditions were terrible. there was a nice inch or so of snow on the ground from last night, but underneath it was all ice. no good. before class tonight i hope to get substantial work on my paper and make calls to the links dawn sent us for vets that treat pets with alternative medicine. ross had to make a bunch of calls to the bank because it looks like someone got ahold of his credit card number and was making a bunch of purchases with it. he got it canceled and is having a new one sent to him.
