[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i love the little tortie too. she's a beaut. i can't wait to see what they are like in person. i got to pet them when they were a week old, but they didn't have much personality then.

I love maine coon personalities--they are the best! lol i wish i could come with you, i've never gotten to play with any coon kittens.

So fluffy! They are absolutely adorable.

I bet you pick the second from the bottom.
Seems like your type

[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
oh i love all the little grey ones, and personality will be the MAIN thing i'm looking at, but i really would prefer a boy since we already have a girl(i think the two greys on the bottom are girls). i do love that torie though.
we'll see. the breeder wants to give us first choice since i have been interested in the litter since the beginning, but the kitten may choose us. madeleine did.

[identity profile] ibukij.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
She just seemed to have a similar spirit to the cat I met at your house.

[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
teehee. i'm surprised that madeleine made such an impression on you. :)

They all seem to have really long ears...at least longer than I remember my little ones having when they were that size. Is that a trait of the breed?

They are all, of course, amazingly cute. I think I'd have to put them all in a box and reach in blindfolded to pick one over the others.

How many of these furballs will you be bringing home?

just one. even with the $100 off the breeder has offered us, purebred cats are expensive as hell. and we already have one at home.
big ears are a trait of maine coons, as are the lynx tips on them, hair between the toes of the large paws, a ruff around the neck and britches(more apparent in adult cats), a tail at least as long as the body, a soft, water-resistant coat, and a square jaw good for mousing. they are awesome cold-weather cats and the first native breed to the US. i'm stupid for them. polydactylity(extra toes) also used to be a trait associated with them, and there are still breeders that breed for that trait even though it's considered a flaw in cat shows. i would LOVE to get a polydactyl cat, but if you can believe it, they are even more expensive than the others.

I'm not really for breeding animals, since there are so many in the world that need love as it is and are already born (and humans too, for that matter), but who can resist a cute kitten?

...okay, maybe I'm the only one. ;)

i would love to be the kind of person who gets shelter animals....but i got my first maine coon because my ex-fiance was allergic to cats and maine coons are easier on allergies than most cats....and i fell in love with the breed. they are low shed AND low allergy AND have sweet dog-like personalities...i think i could maybe get two of those qualities from a shelter cat, but not all of them. and the allergy thing is very important as my husband and many of our friends have allergy issues.

[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
urm...that was from me.

[identity profile] linacandle.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, allergies are a bummer. I'm actually wondering if I might have one. My eyes have been dry and itchy lately. I sure hope not. But I'm glad there is an alternative for allergic animal lovers!

[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-08-14 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, ross's are so minor that maine coons don't bother him at all, but for our VERY allergic friends it often makes the difference of them having a reaction vs. being fine as long as they don't touch their face, or being fine as long as they take a benedryl, vs. only being able to spend an hour in our house.

adorable

They are so cute...I would want if. I didn't already have two at home and they were so hugely expensive. Grin

I like the first grey one. But I love the expression on the first one's face!
