some weekend.

wow.
well saturday we drove up to Fargo, ND to visit with dusty, val and their kids and go to a house-warming party thrown by ross's friend charlie, who was recently diagnosed with MS. he seems to be handling it really well and not suffering from any major symptoms, but it was the first time i met the guy and who knows how good my read of him really was. my main impression of him was that he reminded me of a kid i went on a few dates with in high school - josh schulman - who is now doing lighting for my asshole ex-fiance in philadelphia. the party was small. there was a guy there named chris who seemed really cool and interesting, his wife, jen, who wouldn't talk to me and gave me single syllable answers whenever possible, a close-mouthed pool shark, dusty, and charlie's live-in girlfriend, trista, who made an extremely negative impression on me. empty. hollow. destructive.
it was very good to see dusty again and meet the rest of his family. dusty was one of our groomsmen and he is a very smart, gentle man. i think he and val need to get the hell out of fargo. we went to breakfast with them sun. morning and ross drove me around the places he'd lived and worked while he was up there. i like seeing places in his history. it gives me a sense of continuity and place when he tells stories about his life.
we stopped to hang out and catch up with [livejournal.com profile] wilderheart and [livejournal.com profile] eltanin on the way back. it is ALWAYS wonderful to see them. such smart people. then we went home and started preparing dinner for ourselves and our friend dawn who came to hang out with us and crash for the night. i think i drank too much wine, but we had a very nice evening.

today was spent reading and job-searching and checking on my sproutlings and failing to fix the printer. we ordered a fixer kit for it, but there was a shipping error and they neglected to include instructions on how to fix it. grrrr. i need the printer fixed so that i can apply for jobs that want paper resumes sent w/o wasting lots of money at kinko's. grrrrr.
i am giddy right now because i applied for a job as a chaplain's assistant at mcalester college in st. paul today. i am SO excited about the potential of working there. it is perfect. they emphasize cultural diversity, interfaith and ecumenical worship and outreach and best of all i am qualified!~!! keep your fingers crossed for me.

NOTICE: i will be in virginia in roughly a week! i will be in town for a week, ross just for the weekend. we have a friend's wedding to go to([livejournal.com profile] vale797 seminary buddies rachel mciver and jared morey are getting married!). i am obligated first to offer my help to the wedding trauma reduction force, but would love to see whoever is in town.

That sounds like it would suit you so well. I only know generalities about such job description but I can imagine you would be excellent in the position and with that population. I bet it would be a joy. And an extra bonus to a college with that name...you play the pipes.
Your fan

Mac would be a perfect fit for you. A bi-chaplain on that campus would peas and carrots.
Incidentally Mac was where I first hear the expression LUG (Lesbian Until Graduation). Ironically the woman who said, in distaste, that expression in my presence to describe a mutual friend, is now married to a man... Go fig

We should hang out this week ;)

sounds great!
and dude can you blame us? socially heterosexual relationships are so much easier to deal with! i am reminded of the phrase "lucky in love", usually used to refer to gettin' lots of it, but there is a whole other sense - some people fall in love with people who are terrible for them, others who are good for them. some people fall in love with people who are easy to love and their marital problems are normal interpersonal ones. others fall for people who have a hard road ahead of them and wind up walking that hard road together.....it is a wonder no one ever uses it that way.

i am glad you hear good things about macalister. the staff in the chaplain's office all have bios up online and they look like people i would very much enjoy working with. cross your fingers for me.
