this bothers me a lot (stolen from [profile] mister_wolf)

homophobic, censoring sara palin?

i have previously expressed my feelings about censorship and gay rights.
this article speaks for itself.

EDIT: per the kind notification of my readers and snopes, sara palin did not actually censor books. someone else did. she's still fundamentalist enough to have no problems pushing her views on other people in a way that scares me, but this particular incident was created by rumor, not truth.

disturbing....

[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah i thought so too.

I had seen a headline that Palin had tried to get books banned at some point, but I didn't bother to read further before. I didn't know this was one of them.

Doesn't surprise me; extremely religious people tend to do things like that. It's unfortunate.

It was also the 90's. Hopefully she's mellowed a little bit and at least accepted that some people are gay, and that it doesn't mean they aren't Americans anymore.

i beg your pardon.
_I_ am an extremely religous person - of the same religion - and i have never done anything remotely like that.
she is a fundamentalist. and that is a very different thing.

Yeah, I chose my words poorly there. But I meant crazy religious. Heh.

now THAT i will agree with. :)

mellowed

I doubt it. Nothing I have read about her shows any indication that she is self-reflective enough to reconsider her views...except for political reasons.

yeah. i have to say i agree. she flaunts her fundamentalism - and it is part of her appeal - the reason she was chosen. mccain needs her to attract the religious wrong to vote for him.

I am not happy with other things Sarah Palin has done, but she is not the person who had the books banned in Wasilla.

she absolutely terrifies me. most of all because she's managed to get as far as she has. i'm just desperately hoping that all the middle of the road mums who initially flocked to her will quickly realise that she is not "just like them".

[identity profile] 2eclipse.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
that is my hope as well.
but i hope even more that people will be insulted that the republican party thinks they will vote for any woman just because she is a woman.
