mostly an excercise post
went in for my drug test and background check this morning, talked to corrin (who i thought was not speaking to me and whom i was very glad to hear from) and biked 10 miles today biked 10 miles monday too. i am making a real effort to get in shape this summer. i am also eating less. one of these days i will actually start losing weight. i was thinking about exercise so much i could hardly sleep last night. it was weird. i don't normally enjoy exercise. i get too lonely and bored. but i have started listening to podcasts while i bike and it feels like someone is talking to me. it helps a lot. i would like to be doing 20 miles at a stretch. i remember when 30 was nothing. maybe i will get there in two weeks. i figure that if increasing your running too quickly isn't good for you, increasing your biking too quickly isn't either. i've been going around lake phalen too, which is quite hilly. oddly enough, i think i didn't sunburn today for the first time since i've been going out. i am getting quite tan.
i picked up the art of war today for $6. i've heard a lot about this book for a long time, but never read it. it is foolish that it takes game-related motivation to make me pick it up....it's just that i've got so many other things i want to read and this feels like non-fiction, especially since i'm a pacifist. bah.
i've gotten to talk to eileen more recently. i've missed her. she went through this super-conservative christian phase and we drifted apart....not because she was christian, but because she was so strict and conservative. she has chilled out a lot in recent years and our friendship seems to have resumed as though it never left off. it is a good thing to have old friends.

The best part about The Art of War is that it doesn't have to be about war. Just alter the parts that involve vanquishing your enemies and try to look at it as a book about how to come out on top in life in general.
I had to start using Sun Tzu the first time I ended up working hand in hand with salesmen. Very pertinent advice there, especially if you're dealing with misdirecting and manipulative people on a regular basis.
