the memory of being scared out of any hope of rational thought over a beloved feline is very close in my memory. i wish i could be with you right now to make you coffee and do my best to distract you from your worry.
here is the thought that consoled me with luther: we are in control of two things in life. our actions and our attitude. we do not get to choose how long the little darlings stay with us. all we can do is give them the best life possible while they are with us, whether it is a short time or a long one. if you have done that, you have done as much as any pet owner can for your beloved. focusing on the quality rather than the quantity of what i could give luther, helped me put his life into a perspective i could cope with. it didn't lessen the pain of his illness, but it lessened my self-doubt.
