mitch and jen are coming to visit me from pennsylvania today!!!!!
mitch was my best friend/next door neighbor from college. he is complete geek.
jen is his wife of 5 years (and she's HOT!). wonderful in her own right and a very talented actress/costume designer. i haven't seen them in over a year. i am so excited!!
today is the rain date for croquet.
my undergrad education was at st. john's college in annapolis, md.
it is a teeny-tiny little place (less than 500 including the grad program) with a great books program. you read the original authors and then discuss their work in class - even for math and science classes.
as you might figure we are all geeks.
st. john's attracts kids who couldn't find a friend in high school.
about 20 years ago, a naval academy student (or middie, for midshipman) challenged a johnny to a competition in whatever sport they chose. the johnnie called croquet and an annual tradition was born!
every spring we all get together on the front campus, dress out 20's style with hats, sundresses, bow ties and general classy attire, picnic on the lawn, get drunk on mint juleps and champagne and yell "well struck!"
the naval academy cadets are really good sports considering they've only won once or twice.:)
i look forward to this every year. i hope it doesn't get rained out for good.
